Filet Crochet

I have grown around filet crochet because my grandma was a master at it. She mostly made tablecloths and runners -some of which you may have seen in my pictures - I always have her crocheted tablecloths on my table.

Filet crochet is a type of crochet where you make a grid filled with various designs - from flowers and animals to texts and geometric shapes.

It  mostly uses two stitches -the chain stitch and the double crochet. Monotone (predominantly white or ecru) crochet thread made of mercerized cotton is used for filet crochet to make window curtains, tablecloths and runners, placemats and coasters and clothes, although nowadays more colors are brought to it.

I have composed a board where you can find filet crochet diagrams and instructions how to filet crochet, interesting designs and free patterns.

I tried filet once but wasn't so great at it. I have such a hard time working with thread and tiny hooks. That long white tunic is so pretty.

I avoid working with small hooks in order not to ruin my eyes, but will try something just for fun :)

I've made a few runners using filet crochet but it was a bit boring following instructions, I like being more free in my crafts. I must say I have never seen a filet crochet as cute as that baby's hat. Love it!

It must be wonderful to have those tablecloths Maya. I love all of this inspiration and I have never tried this kind of crochet. It looks like it would be hard! I do hope you are enjoying summer. Take care.

Maya, this is so cool! I knew about the floral pattern and design but I had no idea it could include animals. I'll definitely be on the look out for some vintage pieces now. I hope your weekend was relaxing, Coco

Hi rev. All these are posted as inspiration. None of these is my work, nor I know where to purchase. Please try etsy or e-bay if you are interested in purchasing filet crochet items.
